Different Ways of Building Confidence in Students

Confidence is the key to success. No one has a second thought about this. Lack of confidence can spoil a student’s career. So it is very necessary that teaching methods should include confidence building measures in students at different levels. Most of the students face lack of confidence while speaking, reading and sharing their point of views in a larger group.

The most important thing in smooth learning process rests on the confidence of the students. If students don’t feel confident, they don’t learn things fast or gain the required speed and fluency they are expected of. Those who lack confidence generally say or complain that “It is not possible for me,” “This is not my cup of tea,” “I cannot be sharp,” “I am slow,” and “This I can’t do.” In order to build confidence in students, teachers shall adopt multi-pronged strategy. For enthusing confidence in students following measures could be of much help and can go a long way in boosting the confidence level of students:

  • Let Students Speak First: Give students ample opportunities to speak in the classroom. Teachers can actively use different qualitative teaching activities like holding an informal conversation, presentations and also loud reading way to enthuse confidence in students. The moment students get some of the words from these activities, they come to realize that they are better understood and then they can be seen using the language while speaking in the classroom or any other place or occasion.
  • Activities Should be Smooth: Teachers or instructors are advised that the learning activities that they are making use for building and enhancing confidence in students must be carefully selected. It should not be hard rather it should be smooth enough so that students can actively participate in them. It is wise to start with easy activities so that at each level students feel successful and gain something out of it. Such small but impressive activities will add more confidence in students in taking challenges ahead.
  • Dealing with Overconfident Students: Overconfidence could be dangerous for students and this is one of the major problems teachers face in a classroom of students from diverse backgrounds and different levels. In a class, you may have a few students speaking and very active in other activities, and on every single occasion they find an opportunity to perform. This is good for those students but the less confident students and quieter ones would feel left behind. This may create a sense of alienation between the over confident ones and less confidents students. To curb such thing teachers shall maintain the tradition of giving equal chance to everyone to speak their mind and give preference to less confident ones to engage more with the activity. And in the entire process appreciating their contribution will certainly boost the confidence of those who generally don’t like to come upfront and feel that maybe their answer would be wrong and has no relevance.
  • Use of Small Groups: It is a very wise idea to divide students in smaller rather than bigger groups while engaging them in any activity. In a small group, students find it easier to share their views and speak more. Once they realize that they can better perform in a small group, they can certainly perform better or speak more confidently in front of a bigger audience.

Hard work is the key to success

Students want to have plenty of things; their dreams are beyond their position. A person who works hard will assuredly be pleased with the worth of success. Every student has to face such situation in his lifespan where he will succeed only if he is focused and dedicated towards the tasks of his life; many of these get flourished because of serious hard work.

A famous saying “NO PAIN, NO GAIN” explains that sluggish and impractical students those who never put any efforts towards their work can never succeed at any stage of their life. Nothing can act as hurdles for the ones who have decided to achieve triumph with no fear of his toil, labor, exertions, or efforts. Our hard work is the only thing that can convey that what we have achieved and what we can achieve in our life.

Education opens the door to success: Apart from hard work, students having lot of knowledge about their surroundings and work can also go beyond the boundaries of success. Even though our life takes lots of twists and turns, still education will save us from getting insolvent.

Luck doesn’t matter: A young individual has the potential to achieve success with his inner dedication towards his tasks, whether his luck prevails or not. They only mode to succeed is work hard, the ones who do not work hard finish up being unsuccessful.

Success originates after years and years of labor: Students want to achieve success by an easy method but they are not aware of the fact that success comes after years and years of hard work. Even after facing epic failures you can put on your hard work and again change the unscrupulous situations into virtuous ones.

For a student, it is very much important to develop a decent habit of clearing all his doubts, this helps in upholding a confidential connection with his studies. Personal tutoring is considered to be the best way of resolving the difficulties a student faces.

Some parents are however apprehensive about sending their wards for tuitions. Being apprehensive won’t solve the problem; in fact those parents can be cautious and vigilant while finding the right tutor for their wards. Also, they can opt for home tuitions where the tutor comes to their house.

Provides guidance: It has been observed that personal tutoring helps a student in gaining a lot of basic knowledge and proper guidance and to top it all, moral boost is also given by the tutor to the student.

Open room for helpful discussions: Due to personal tutoring, students are able to discuss with their tutors like to get advice on some confusing issues, common guidance, speculative issues etc.

Effective advices come easy: Students facing difficult situation can get effective advice from their tutors, this may help a student to choose the best decision. The problems students face are merely solved by their tutors because the tutors knows better about the solid and feeble points of the student.

Relief from hesitation: The students taking regular classes from a tutor is able to have a good tuning with his tutor. This leads to lack of hesitation and a good and a healthy relationship between student and the tutor. This makes the student feel free in questioning his doubts.

Therefore tutors helps their students to develop worthy knowledge and also imitates them that what should be their action plans to complete some challenging tasks.

Basics of mathematics and how it is helpful

Mathematics is not just a mere process of number crunching games; it is all about dealing with logic of shape, arrangement and quantity. Mathematics has its trace in ancient history, wherein Egyptians used mathematics to come out with equation like algebra and geometry, which eventually helped them in building the great pyramids. It shows the power of mathematics in creation. Importantly, Mathematics helps in building analytical skills and gives the space to take quick decisions of life. The significance of plus, minus, division and multiplication in day-to-day lives is in itself the proof of dominance of mathematics. Right from ancient symbols to cosmological evolution, all are driven by mathematical measurements.

Daily Living and Mathematics
The daily lives of human being might become completely blank without mathematics. An individual needs or somehow stays connected with mathematics in some form or other that drives his/her mechanism. The knowledge of mathematics and mathematical calculation help in day lives in many ways. The first and foremost priority of every human being is calculation, without which their daily lives will become stationary. For example, for counting money, basic mathematical skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are required. Right from buying products from supermarkets to investing money, everything needs simple mathematical skills.

Different Careers and Mathematics

  • In case of interior designing and constructing houses, surface knowledge of mathematics is must. It is mathematical formulas and concept, which shows how much of material is needed to decorate a house, what will be the measurements, and how the space and area can be managed.
  • Similarly, in the field of Engineering and architecture, it is must to have advance knowledge of mathematics. In addition, basics of algebra and geometry help an individual in making analytical decisions to solve technical problems. Other jobs here mathematics is applied are accounting, plumbing, scientific work and many more.
  • Right from sport persons to coaches and managers, everyone is ought to have mathematical knowledge to take quick decisions. Mathematical helps in building analytical problem solving skills as it also focuses on statistics.
